Shiva or Maheshwara, the Divine Lord and in him are concentrated the three energies of understanding (Gyana), the will (Ichha) and action (Kriya) - thus forming the fountainhead of all knowledge. The nature of Shiva as representing the entire cosmos has led to his having 1008 names in scriptures, extending the Vedic concept of multiple forms of a single divine power. The Vedas mention Shiva as Rudra, the lord of songs, sacrifices, nourishment, the healer of diseases and the provider of property. Though Shiva is described as an angry god, he is mostly depicted as being in a cheerful or jovial mood. Usually he is shown with a lot of innocence in his face to mark his name Bholenath or the innocent God. Sometimes Shiva is depicted as a Jatadhari, naked ascetic, encircled with serpents and necklaces of skulls. He can be seen as a simple hermit with a beard and long matted hair or dreadlocks. His long hair is indicative of his spiritual powers. Sometimes Shiva wanders into crematoriums, smears his body with ash and dances in the light of the funeral pyres, reminding all about the transitory nature of material things.
Sometimes he is in the form of Dancing Nataraja. This is Shiva engaged in a cosmic dance. Other times Shiva is seen as the god of meditation and asceticism. Sometimes He is Mahayogi, and He is Pashupatinath. See Shiva as family person sitting with his wife Maa Parvati. Shiva can be seen as warrior fully loaded with weapons. Whatever form you want to please him in, he will be happy, for he will just see your faith and devotion, and not rituals. It's written very clearly in Shiva MahaPurana. "A man who worships lord Shiva while maintaining the rules of 'varna ashrama dharma', (four stages of human life) has the blessings of Lord Shiva and all of his desires are fulfilled". Only Shiva purifies aspirants of their sins and bestows renunciation. Shiva alone can remove all our impurities. Shiva is the divine filter that receives the prarabdhas and impurities of the people, thereby making them pure. 🙏🏻👁💀🌙🐍🐚🌀📿🔔🕉🍃
