I took this photo after thinking Ellie and I looked #adorableaf
in our rain coats as we prepared for our night walk.
☔️ While my spouse is usually on night duty for walking Ellie, I stepped in to take her tonight. I'm sometimes struck with anxiety when walking alone at night since an incident happened to me while out running a few years ago, which rendered me too freaked out to be in the same setting. In recent years my anxiety around this issue has greatly improved and I am so grateful to the therapist who helped me in dealing with it. Still, I am sometimes surprised when I can easily venture out alone.
My actions tonight--dressing myself and Ellie in rain coats, thinking how adorable we were, pausing for a photo shoot, and then NOT having anxiety on the walk--brought me loads of joy.
It's significant for me to think positively about myself and to have moments of calm. This picture celebrates how far I've come in my journey.
Recognizing the tiny joys in our busy lives takes seconds. If you make space for small joys, your life will soon be filled with them. If you're often struck with anxiety and it's too difficult to think of joy, I encourage you to start tiny, really really tiny. Like raincoat and photo shoot with your dog tiny. There's no minimum requirement for experiencing joy.
However, if you find yourself overcome with anxiety then please know that help is out there. You are not alone. You do not need to "just be braver." Resource: @namicommunicate
